Photograph of young people playing volleyball on the beach, ca.1940. Five people stand on each side of the volleyball net in preparation for the next play. Eight of the players are boys and men wearing small bathing suits while one man in the top left of the court wears pants and a shirt and a women to the right of center wears a lightly colored two piece bathing suit. In the foreground, a boy to the right extends his arms overhead while the volleyball flies in the air. The sand volleyball court is bordered by a string that forms the rectangle and a tightly strung net in the center. Spectators sit on benches in the background while others stand or sit around ping pong tables and benches away from the sand.
