Three Mayan men wearing colorful clothing and hats sit or stand in Nahualá on election day. The government required every literate person over the age of eighteen to vote or pay a fine. They were told that they would be killed if they did not vote. Groups of Mayan men started lining up to vote at five in the morning. Tres hombres vistiendo ropa colorida y sombreros yacen sentados o parados en Nahualá el día de las elecciones. El gobierno exigió que todas las personas alfabetizadas mayores de dieciocho años votaran o pagarían una multa. Se les dijo que los matarían si no votaban. Grupos de hombres mayas comenzaron a formarse para votar a las cinco de la mañana.
