Description
This rosette was worn in a funeral parade for President Abraham Lincoln. A picture of President Lincoln is affixed to the center of the rosette, to express the mourning of the wearer. President Lincoln's body was taken by train to 12 cities where he was viewed by the public, before arriving at his final resting place in Illinois. The rosette or cockade is made of a stiff, thin fabric -- probably silk tissue or taffeta -- with a paper backing. The photo of President Lincoln is framed with a thin copper or brass frame.
