Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph included in the Exhibit: From Pop to the Pit, The LAPL Photo Collection Celebrates the L.A. Music Scene, 1978-1989. A thrash metal band from Orange County, Slayer has attracted tremendous negative attention from its depiction of satanic rituals and violence both lyrically and visually, causing a backlash of outrage from retail stores, religious groups and the mainstream public. Despite their notoriety, Slayer has released ten studio albums, four of which went gold. They have won two of the five nominated Grammy awards. First photograph caption dated October 28, 1983 reads, "San Pedro's Minutemen, who will be playing locally are, from left, Mike Watt, D. Boon and George Hurley."; Second photograph caption dated March 9, 1984 reads, "An eclectic sampling of music from the raw, thunderous and sweaty edge of the spectrum, played by four bands from Black Flag's SST label, including Wurm, Saccharine Trust, the Meat Puppets and the intense working-class ravings of San Pedro's Minutemen, tonight at the Music Machine."; Third photograph caption dated August 21, 1984 reads, "San Pedro's own Minutemen, from left, Mike Watt, D. Boon and George Hurley, is one of the groups questioners had in mind when they asked panel members about worthy groups being ignored by major labels."
