Description
Photograph of the interior of the old church during early morning mass at the Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico, 1886. The altar is visible at center. The wall behind the altar consists of six painted panels of figures with an ornate arch above. A group of a dozen or so individuals huddle on the dirt ground near the side walls. Five people stand before the left rail of the altar on the top of four steps. There are no pews. A long shallow channel (for drainage?) runs up the middle of the church floor.
