Title supplied by cataloger. Photographer's caption reads, "Four photographers held an exhibition in the Hollyhock House. They came up with a detailed show title: "Details of Distinction: Architectural Details of Frank Lloyd Wright and His Los Angeles Progeny." I won't provide the names of the photographers or their progeny. I'm exceedingly charitable about photography, but there isn't much good to say about the show. Hollyhock House, on the other hand, is spectacular. Wright designed it for Aline Barnsdall. Barnsdall's grandfather drilled the second producing oil well in the United States, so she had the money to do whatever she wanted. She made it the centerpiece of a 36-acre art community known as Olive Hill. The four photographers shot artfully tame fragments, pliantly well-behaved abstracts. They put the results up in Wright's masterpiece."
