Description
This January 4, 1934, photograph shows the release of the flood waters from the Yolo Bypass weir into the Yolo Bypass. Built in 1916, the structure straddles nearly 2,000 feet of the Sacramento River's west bank. The structure itself was composed of 48-movable - and hand operated - doors, made up of wooden boards and steel beams. Seldom opened, the weirs are opened when water stages reach 27-and-a-half feet or higher.
