Description
This photograph was taken from a high angle and shows a public crowd gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Grand Lodge of the York Rite Masonic Order, at 9th Street and Locust Avenue, June 4th, 1927. Men wearing their ceremonial Master Mason aprons stand in a group in the center of the image. Around this group are more Masons, many also dressed in ceremonial uniforms. A large brick building, suggesting a school, can be seen in the background. A small residence is also visible in the upper right quadrant of the print. One person has climbed a telephone pole for a better view of the ceremony. In the lower left quadrant, a period steam shovel sits idling on the empty lot. DATE NOTES: Noted on image back. ORIG.
