Mekane Yesus kirkens præsident, Ato (pastor) Emmanuel Abraham,1980. - Emmanuel Abraham (f.1913) er en af de ledende etiopiske personligheder i det 20. århundrede. Efter en tid som skolelærer og rektor blev han fra 1939-43 udnævnt af kejser Haile Selassie til forskellige diplomatiske poster i London, New Delhi og Rom, og fik senere en række regeringsposter i Addis Abeba, bl.a. i forskellige ministerier. I forbindelse med kejserstyrets fald i 1974, blev Emmanuel Abraham fængslet af militærjuntaen, men løsladt igen efter 9 mdr. – Efter hjemkomsten i 1943 blev Ato Emmanuel medlem af EECMY. Og fra 1963-85 var han valgt til kirkens præsident. Ved mange lejligheder deltog Ato Emmanuel som EECMY’s repræsentant i All-Africa-Lutheran Conference. Desuden var han fra 1957-84 medlem af LWF’s Eksekutiv Komité

President of the Ethiopian Evg. Church Mekane Yesus/EECMY, Ato (Rev.) Emmanuel Abraham, 1980. Emmanuel Abraham (b. 1913) is one of the leading Ethiopian personalities of the 20th century. Following a period as school teacher and headmaster, from 1939-43 he was elected by Emperor Haile Selassie to different diplomatic posts in London, New Delhi and Rome, and had later several high level government posts at Addis Ababa, e.g. in different ministries. By 1974, the Military Junta, which overthrew the imperial government, detained him. However, 9 months later he was released. Following return to Ethiopia in 1943, Ato Emmanuel became member of the EECMY. And from 1963-85 he was elected as the Church President. On several occasions, Ato Emmanuel attended the All-Africa Lutheran Conference as delegate from EECMY. He also served as member of the LWF Executive Committee, from 1957-84.
