Description
The rifle was a 58 caliber muzzle-loaded percussion cap fire gun with rifled barrel. The firing mechanism is marked "E. Whitnet US." It was a US Contract gun made to government specifications, probably used in the Civil War. Four metal hooks have been mounted to the barrel and stock to turn it into a wall-mounted coatrack.
