Description
173 East Blithedale. This photo shows a newer two story brown single building with red trim and stairways. There are matching stairway landings and railings extending out from the front right half of the building and matching multi-paned windows on the left half of both stories. A brick chimney is seen on the left side of the building. A wooden sign in front says, " 173 Old French Laundry Building" The caption from the 1983 Walk into History reads, "This home was purchased in 1918 by the Leoni family who had just come from Italy for $1500. They lived here until 1942 when they moved to Paradise Key. (It was never a French laundry). Dick Leoni was the head gardner at Tamalpais High School and with a team of 4/5 men maintained one of the most beautiful school gardens in California. They had two daughters, Laura and Cora. Laura worked many years for Drs. Tom and Wilson Goddard, and Corty married Bill Buss "the boy next door". The home has just recently been converted to offices."
