The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket; general contractor was L.E. Dixon Company. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. The arena was closed on March 19, 2016 and demolished to make room for a new soccer stadium. Photograph caption dated January 27, 1964 reads "Vancouver Canuck goalie Marcel Paille (1) dives on puck to keep Blades Norm Johnson (12) and Harold White (18) from getting their sticks on it again. Action occurred at the Sports Arena Saturday as the Blades outscored the Canucks 6-4. This was one of 42 saves for the busy Paille." The Los Angeles Blades are playing the Vancouver Canucks.
