Description
This is a photograph of the General Office of the Bureau of Vital Statistics and California State Board of Health, Sacramento. California Vital Records have been kept sporadically since July 1, 1905. But the process became more regulated when, in 1915, national birth register areas were established. By 1933 all states were regularly registering births and deaths.
The image was taken by Harley Frederick of Frederick Foto, a photographer and veteran of World War One who operated at 718 ½ J Street, Sacramento, as a professional photographer after the war’s end.
