Plantation of White Pine and Norway Spruce on Mont Alto Forest, Pa. was a partial failure after planting in 1910. Soil was then dynamited as an experiment and replanted in 1911 to same species. (Dynamiting did not accomplish anything.) Part in foreground was burned by an incendiary fire in 1919 and replanted to Pitch Pine so it would sprout if fired again. The competition of smooth sumac (Rhus glabra) is severe here. May, 1924
