Description
Photograph caption reads: "Northrop unwraps latest entry in fighter war: The Northrop Corp. yesterday unveiled its $9 million Tigershark fighter plane, the first financed entirely with private-sector money. The first test flight for the F-5G Tigershark is scheduled for September at Edwards Air Force Base. The Tigershark tactical defense fighter is the successor aircraft to Northrop's series of F-5 fighters now in service on order by 30 countries, Northrop said in a statement. But even as the plane was displayed, Pentagon and industry officials say the Defense Department has settled on the Grumman F-14 Tomcat as the Navy's premier fighter, a key decision nation's military." Photograph dated: Aug. 2, 1982.
