Hawley Postmaster" captioned "Message sent to Mare Island by Ray Newby, breaking record for efficient transmission." Includes photograph of Herrold's station, with text, "In 1913, Emile Portal and Ken Sanders would occasionally read a news report on Charles Herrold's 250-watt San Jose, California radio station. But most of the day was devoted to playing big-time crooners like Al Jolson, Sophie Tucker, and Mary Garden." 7) Reproduction of Herrold Laboratories advertisement featuring image of Charles Herrold. 8) Reproduction of Herrold patents for Telephone Transmitter (1,165,255) and Oscillator for Wireless Transmission (1,096,717) patented December 21, 1915 and May 12, 1914 respectively. 9) Transcript of an article from The World Metropolitan Section, Sunday August 12, 1923, about Emile Portal's accomplishments as installer of the radio station at the Garden City Bank Building, and vice president of Colin B. Kennedy Corporation. 10) Patent for Telephone-Transmitter by Charles D. Herrold and Emile A. B. Portal, of San Jose, California, patented December 21, 1915.
