Hamlin Garland ([The Macmillan Company]), 60 5th Avenue, New York, New York, USA, letter, 1927 February 28, to "my readers". "Altho[ugh] published last my Trail-makers of the Middle Border is an imaginary prface to my 'Middle Border Trilogy' -- an author always writes his preface last -- but it is based upon the lives of my father and mother, Richard Garland and isabel McClintock." -- first line. Photocopy of the original. ❧ F.E.A. (The Macmillan Company ), 60 5th Avenue, New York, New York, USA, letter, 1927 February. "You will find enclosed a little note in the handwriting (reproduced) of Hamlin Garland, one of the most distinguished figures in modern literature." -- first line. Photocopy of the original.
