Photograph of Western Union line men erecting the Hoover Dam line along the right-of-way of the branch railroad of Union Pacific Railroad, ca.1900. At center, a group of five men help to push a utility pole upright from its base, while a sixth at right uses a pole to push the top. Farther left, a seventh supervises. An automobile can be seen near railroad tracks in the background. Photoprint reads "Wherever a railroad is built there must be a means of communication for train dsipatchers. Here is a crew of Western Union line men putting the Hoover Dam line in shape along the right-of-way of the branch RR of the Union Pacific. This line will run into Boulder City with the RR with branches to Hoover Dam site. Five units of wires will serve the outside county with news of the progress of work and other items going over these wires".
