Description
Photograph of panoramic view of a desert mining town on the Colorado River -- Hedges (later Tumco), Imperial County, ca.1905. A few small wood houses and shacks made up the town in the foreground. More of the town is visible in the distance beyond a processing plant of some sort (with two smokestacks) at right. A mining operation (specifically a long rail tressle for ore cars) can be seen in the foothills at left. A rail line curves around from the bottom right corner to the processing plant. Several ore cars and a couple of men are on the rails. (Part of cargo muchacho district, facing southwest -- wbc.)
