Joseph Allan Nevins was born on May 20, 1890 in Camp Point, Illinois. He was a journalist and historian, known for his works on the history of the Civil War and for his biographies of Grover Cleveland, Henry Ford and John D. Rockefeller. He received two Pulitzer Prize awards. Nevis wrote the foreword to President John F. Kennedy's book, Profiles in Courage. He died on March 5, 1971. San Fernando Valley State College is now California State University Northridge. Photograph caption dated June 13, 1959 reads Conducts graduation.
