Description

The first "Faire" opened its two-day run on May 11, 1963, originally started by founders Ron and Phyllis Patterson. Now called the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, it is a commercial re-enactment of a 1580s market faire at Port Deptford, a waterfront town located in Elizabethan England. The fair is held in various locations and is generally open from the first weekend in April through the weekend before Memorial Day.
Photograph caption dated May 31, 1965 reads "Maja Lichtenfeld, 18, of Pacific Palisades, sells oranges to Karl Watts, bread salesman at benefit 'Faire' for radio station KPFK over the weekend in Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu Canyon. 'Faire' ends tonight."
