Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (December 4, 1912 - January 11, 1988) was a United States Marine Corps officer and flying ace during World War II. For his heroic actions, he was awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Boyington and Frances Baker were married from 1947 to 1958, at which time he met Dee Tatum, seen here. "Pappy" died of cancer and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Mrs. Dee Boyington is shown in a hospital as a result of a back injury brought on from a fall she claims was caused by her husband Gregory Boyington just before he moved from their North Hollywood apartment. Photograph caption dated April 8, 1964 reads, "From her bed, Mrs. Gregory (Pappy) Boyington shows reporter Alta Sorensen inscription her husband wrote to her in his book, 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' : '...fantasy to believe that a beautiful creature such as yourself could ever fall in love with the likes of me.' He is suing for annulment of their marriage."
