Photograph of the first electric railroad in Los Angeles, which ran from the Plaza to Pico Heights (west to Vermont Avenue and Alvarado Street), ca.1886-1887. About 13 men stand on the running board of the rail car which is packed full of people. Another man stands on the ground next to the motor man who is in the rail cab. A sign across the top of the car reads: "Spring Street, First Street, Boyle Heights".
