Front and side view of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in the city of Pico Rivera. It is unclear if the building behind, but adjacent to the main structure is part of the actual church. The entrance to the parking lot is visible on the left of the building. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, founded by Joseph Smith, Jr. on April 6, 1830 is widely known as the LDS Church, or more commonly, the Mormon Church. The church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah and has established 27,475 congregations world wide, reporting approximately 13 million members, with 6.7 million of those members residing outside of the United States. According to these statistics, it is the fourth largest religious body in the U.S. An interesting fact about Sunday service is that the church is grouped into either larger congregations known as "wards" (from 200-400 people), or smaller congregations known as "branches" (under 200 people). Photo dated: March 2007.
