Photograph of the tomb of Sir Henry Lawrence which is constructed as three square tiers and a small circular stone, the grave is surrounded by a cast iron fence. The epitaph reads "Here lies Henry Lawrence who tried to do his duty. May the Lord have mercy on his soul Born June 18th 1806. Died July 4th 1857”. ❧ This image belongs to an album of photographs collected by Dr. Stevenson and includes images from India, China and Africa. The photograph is one of several from an envelope, in the album, marked as 'Mrs Milligan's and Miss Compton's photos'. ❧ Sir Henry Lawrence was an army officer in the East India Company and was chief commissioner at Lucknow during the Indian mutiny. He died of shrapnel wounds on 4 July 1857.
