Description
This circa 1930 photograph shows the action off of a cross in a soccer game at between the Western Pacifics (striped kits) and the De Molays at Western Pacific Field, located near Sutterville Road. At this time, Sacramento’s Municipal Soccer League boasted ten teams, including the two pictured, the Celtics, McKinleys, Dantes, Caledonians, Riversides, Garibaldis, Acorns, and a team from Grass Valley. After playing the first half season, from early October to late November, action resumed in the spring with the top five teams playing one another toward a championship game in April. In the background are the backyards of several homes on Curtis Park’s Oak Street.
