Description
In this October 1937 photograph, a revetment borders a section of the Sacramento River. Efforts to strengthen the levee system within the Sacramento-San Joaquin Flood Control Project were especially vigorous after the March 1936 breach of several levees along the east coast's Susquehanna, Ohio and Potomac Rivers, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives, 200,000 homeless, and well over 150,000,000 dollars in damage.
