Group portrait of students posing in front of the Pleasant Valley Grammar School, located in Camarillo, Calif. The Pleasant Valley School District is the oldest existing school district in Ventura County, having been established in 1868. The first Pleasant Valley School class had a mere six pupils, and it was held in an abandoned granary on a ranch along Somis Road. In 1871, the first permanent school building was constructed and it served children from 1st through 9th grades. The Pleasant Valley area in Southern California incorporates the cities of Camarillo, Somis, and parts of the Oxnard plain, Santa Rosa Valley, and surrounding areas. Photo dated: February 14, 1929.
