In the center foreground, a bottleneck of horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians is pictured. Commercial buildings line the left side of the image, while other carriages can be seen parked along the sidewalk in the right distance. the Saint Charles Hotel and the Pico House are visible. Legible signs from left to right include: "V. Ponet, dealer in Pictures and Picture Frames. French & German Plated Mirrors" "A. Wright & Co. Hardware, Crockery. Leather & Shoefindings. Paints & Oils, Garden Seeds" "Levy & Coblentz" (on on the portico's architrave, which faces the camera at center).
