Photograph caption dated April 2, 1965 reads, "The rapid growth of Simi Valley has been reflected in the opening of the largest Roman Catholic Church in Ventura County, St. Rose of Lima. Seats 1,260 persons." The article partially reads, "The $1/2 million structure, with seating capacity of 1260 persons, was built by Kiely Corporation, Anaheim contractors....Designed by Kenneth H. Hess, AIA, Ventura, the church exterior has a broad copper facia surrounding the entrance canopy, pressed in the symbolic 'fish scale' ornamentation."
