"'60 ton Finback Whale. Length 69 feet.' Redwood Highway has the only whaling station in the U.S.A. Eureka, Calif. 1816-Art-Ray"--text, on item. Title transcribed from item; date approximated by cataloger based on similar photograph of whale in the July 15, 1943, Oakland Tribune, page 17C (with caption: "Ready to strip blubber from a 64-foot Finback whale are two flensers at the Eureka whaling station, which is playing an important role in the Nation's war effort. Whale steaks are being offered for human consumption both here and on the East Coast.")
