This is a photograph of Fr. McShane [left] and Fr. O'Shea [right holding umbrella] having a conversation in front of a brick structure. Rev. McShane was born in Indiana. He joined Maryknoll in 1912 as a deacon, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1914, the first ordained for Maryknoll. He was assigned to Tungchen in 1919 and to Loting the following year. There he set up an orphanage for abandoned children. In 1927 he contracted smallpox from a dying infant, which brought about his own death. He was buried in front of the Loting parish rectory. -- Rev. O'Shea was born in Greenwich Village, New York City. He entered Maryknoll, as its third student, in 1913. He was ordained in 1917. He was assigned to Kochow and later to Wuchow. In 1924 he became Maryknoll procurator in Hong Kong. He later served in various offices in Maryknoll in the U.S. and was later ordained bishop, and appointed Vicar Apostolic of Peng Yang, Korea.
