Description: Richard Ernest Mertz, 73, playing solitaire behind his apartment. Mertz is a 40-year resident who never married. His twin brother died "some time ago" and he doesn't keep in touch with his surviving sister except at Christmas when they exchange cards. Photograph dated January 18, 2000.
