Description
Hansen Dam, the world's largest dam is virtually completed today and will be formally dedicated on Aug. 17. This air view shows the dam from the upstream side. Located across Tujunga Wash, it will hold back flood waters, reducing their flow in the San Fernando Valley by 81 per cent. The spillway where water flow will be regulated is at right. The dam is two miles long and 102 feet high. Chances of its ever filling are remote and area inside will be landscaped for a public park. Photo dated: August 7, 1940.
