Description
V1p316b In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 316 bottom. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Caption written under photo: "President Wm. Taft leaving the home of R. Roos where he had luncheon during his visit to San Francisco 19[11]. Charles de Young preceeding [sic] President Taft down the steps." Photo depicts Taft walking down steps of Roos home toward waiting auto. Policemen and dignitaries are walking down the steps, standing on the sidewalk or are already seated in the auto. Taft's visit to San Francisco took place in October 1911, at which time he participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Panama-Pacific Expositon, as seen in the photos on page 230 and the top of 231. Text written to left of photo: "Among the members of the Police Department seen in the picture are: Chief, D.A. White, Owen Gormon, Geo McMahon, Thomas Murphy, Dan Driscoll, Chas. Francis, N Baculich, Thos. Reagan."
