Description
Edward Field Sanford, Jr., works within the pediment of State Office Building Number One in this 1926 photograph. This was the first time that Sanford had used a compressor chisel and confided that the day-to-day vibration of the machine made it difficult for him to sleep. That said, the work was continuous, to the point that Sanford even worked through a December rain storm to stay on schedule. For his efforts, Sanford received 40,000 dollars.
