Oluf Eie (1896-1983). Sent by Danish Santal Mission to Mornai Tea Garden in Assam, North India Oluf Eie (1896-1983). Udsendt af Dansk Santalmission til Mornai Tehave i Assam, Nordindien, 1920-1964. Gift med Ingeborg Eie, 1922. I Oluf Eies 39 år som leder af tehaven skete der store forbedringer og sociale tiltag til gavn for medarbejderne. Allerede i 1938 blev børnearbejde forbudt, og der blev startet skole og børnehave. Også sundhedsforhold var der fokus på med oprettelse af et lille hospital, som tilbød gratis behandling til alle ansatte. Samtidig blev Mornai Tehave centrum for kirke- og menighedslivet i området, hvor Ingeborg og Oluf Eie var meget aktive som missionærer i distriktet. Oluf Eie var desuden blandt de første, der arbejdede frem mod den nationale kirkes selvstændighed, med forståelse for de forskellige etniske grupper, santaler, bengaler og boroer. Efter hjemkomst til Danmark var Oluf Eie medlem af Landsstyrelsen i DSM, 1964-74, og blev med sin store viden og erfaring benyttet som rådgiver ved forhandlinger i Indien og Bangladesh, således også i forbindelse med starten på spedalskhedsarbejdet i Nilphamari og Thakurgaon

Oluf Eie (1896-1983). Sent by Danish Santal Mission to Mornai Tea Garden in Assam, North India, 1920-1964. Married to Ingeborg Eie 1922. During Oluf Eie's 39 years as manager of the Tea Garden a lot of improvements for the employees took place. Already from 1938 children's labour was prohibited, and school education as well as nursery were started. Also health issues were in focus with foundation of a small hospital giving free treatment to the employees. Along with this, Mornai Tea Garden became centre for the church ministry of the area, with Ingeborg and Oluf Eie engaged in missionary service all over the district. Also Oluf Eie, as one of the first missionaries, was promoting independence of the national church, with respect for the different ethnic groups, Santals, Bengals and Boros. After returning to Denmark, Oluf Eie was member of the DSM Board, 1964-74, and with his great knowledge and experience he participated as an important adviser during the negotiations in India and Bangladesh, also when starting the leprosy work at Nilphamari and Thakurgaon.
