Title
Oluf Eie (1896-1983). Sent by Danish Santal Mission to Mornai Tea Garden in Assam, North India
Oluf Eie (1896-1983).

Description
Oluf Eie (1896-1983). Sent by Danish Santal Mission to Mornai Tea Garden in Assam, North India, 1920-1964. Married to Ingeborg Eie 1922. During Oluf Eie's 39 years as manager of the Tea Garden a lot of improvements for the employees took place. Already from 1938 children's labour was prohibited, and school education as well as nursery were started. Also health issues were in focus with foundation of a small hospital giving free treatment to the employees. Along with this, Mornai Tea Garden became centre for the church ministry of the area, with Ingeborg and Oluf Eie engaged in missionary service all over the district. Also Oluf Eie, as one of the first missionaries, was promoting independence of the national church, with respect for the different ethnic groups, Santals, Bengals and Boros. After returning to Denmark, Oluf Eie was member of the DSM Board, 1964-74, and with his great knowledge and experience he participated as an important adviser during the negotiations in India and Bangladesh, also when starting the leprosy work at Nilphamari and Thakurgaon.
