Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated February 19, 1962 reads, "Kermit Dale, acting Valley College dean of special services, and Mrs. Ann Martin, math instructor, became acquainted with the college's new $100,000 IBM 1620 electronic digital computer. It will be used in specialized math and engineering courses - put the problem in here and the answer comes out there. The computer, capable of adding 5,000 digits a second, was secured by the Los Angeles Board of Education and the State Board of Education and was partially financed by a National Education Defense Act grant."
