Photograph of exterior of Butadiene storage tanks of the Shell Chemical Company, ca.1940. At center, seven large spherical tanks can be seen in a large rectangular area. Slanted staircases are attached to from the ground to the radius of each tank, and another staircase curving along the surface of the sphere can be seen on four of the tanks. At the top of each tank, a small platform is visible. A light and several pipes can be seen at the top of each platform along with various other equipment. At the base of each sphere, several metallic rods and crossbeams are seen supporting the tank. At various points along the floor of the area, metallic railways can be seen connecting the various tanks. In the extreme foreground, metallic rods and beams can be seen. In the background to the right, other mechanical equipment is visible. In the extreme background to the left, several trees can be seen, while tall metallic spires are visible along the horizon.
