Description
Photograph of the second vessel of the Stewart Organization, [s.d.]. The starboard side of a long vessel can be seen at center with four flying sails. A small flag is visible flying from the top of the middle mast, while railings line both sides of the vessel. The ocean continues into the background. Photoprint reads: "After the first oil tanker, 'W. L. Hardison,' was burned at the old Ventura wharf in the late eighties, the Union Oil Company built the above vessel, the 'Santa Paula'. For several years this sturdy vessel was the entire fleet of the company. Curiously enough, this barge is still in operation today and is considered one of the finest built wooden tank vessels afloat. The picture shows her in full sail en route to Honolulu in 1903".
