Description
Photograph of a view of Main Street looking south toward Third Street in Los Angeles and showing several streetcars, ca.1909. Main Street is at center and heads away from the viewer into the distance. There are two sets of streetcar tracks running down the middle of the road and three large streetcars are visible, all on the right track. There are several horse-drawn vehicles parked on the sides of the road, and there is a bicycle parked in the foreground at right. The sidewalks lining the road are crowded with pedestrians. There are tall buildings on both sides of the street, although those on the left are taller. In the extreme background, at left, the Gray Hotel can be seen at the north-east corner of Main and Third streets. Legible signs include, from left to right, "Wholesale Tailors", "Automatic Theatre (aka Glockner's Automatic Theatre", "The Emporium", "Parrott & Co. Merchandise Brokers", and "A. L. Haley Architect".
