Photograph caption dated September 26, 1956 reads, "Almost completely hidden among a thick growth of oak trees, Kagel Canyon residents challenge anyone to find a better spot in which to live. Despite doubtful water pressure at times and threats of brush fires, longtime residents of this small mountain community resist anyone who ridicules their way of life. This view looking southeasterly shows encroaching smog that rarely envelopes canyon. Residents have long tried to annex to Metropolitan Water District. Summer water supply is often so limited householders have to do with rationed water. Homes are limited to only morning and evening water supplies in most critical summer period."
