Description
This 1893 photograph reveals a group of school children and their teacher posing for a class picture. One of the smaller boys, in the first row, holds a blackboard which has written upon it in chalk "Long Valley School. J.A. Wardlow. Teacher. May-1st '93." The photographer, August M. Aubertus, was located at 421 J Street, Sacramento. Although there are dozens of Long Valleys in California, this particular school was located outside of Auburn, California in Placer County and boasted famed fantasy and science fiction writer/poet Clark Ashton Smith as an alumnus.
