Photograph of William Webb Kemp, president of the San Jose State Teachers College from 1920-1923. William W. Kemp, was born in Placerville, California, and educated at Stanford University. Kemp was the first Californian to serve as president. During his administration, the Normal School implemented the A.B. degree, obtained accreditation for its junior college course from the University of California, and established a student bookstore.
