Shown is a letter dated September 17, 1973 from journalist and humorist Herb Caen. Born in Sacramento in 1916, Caen had originally worked for The Sacramento Union as a sportswriter. He secured a writing position for The San Francisco Chronicle in 1938 and remained a fixture in newspapers up until his death in 1997. This letter exhibits the quick wit and inviting sense of humor that he was known for throughout is 60-year journalism career.
