Future Long Beach flier, Earl Daugherty is shown here as a child, perched on the cliff with his mother, looking out at Devil's Rock and Devil's Gate passage. Etched on the image front by photographer are the words, "Long Beach Cal; Devils Gate; S.V.B., 457." By 1903 most of the features of Devil's Gate were eroded away.
