Description
This photograph features Sara Velas and her sister Karen Velas in front of the Velaslavasay Panorama banner painted by Josh Baymiller during the 2002 Ice Cream Social at the Velaslavasay Panorama. This event marked the debut of the "Avian Alcove" outdoor exhibit in the gardens of the Velaslavasay Panorama. This was a "living diorama" - a painted backdrop with sculptures of birds staged with real and artificial plants along with an ambient audio playback of bird sounds. The installation was a collaboration between sisters Sara Velas and Karen Velas.
