Meeting minutes of the Monterey Peninsula Japanese American Citizens League. Topics discussed include membership cards for keeping track of chapter members, and holding more social activities to generate interest in the JACL. President Higashi summarizes some of the goals of the chapter, which include gaining recognition from national headquarters, the first generation of Japanese immigrants in the community, and local young people. To achieve these aims, Higashi proposes reorganizing the chapter, increasing membership, and planning more activities. Anti-immigrant bills before the legislature are also discussed. The Monterey Peninsula Japanese American Citizens League Collection features the records of the Monterey Peninsula chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, including correspondence, meeting minutes, scrapbooks, and event planning materials. It also includes materials documenting the history of Japanese Americans in Monterey and WWII incarceration camps.
