Caption reads: "Workmen of the G. S. Herrington Co. Inc. of Auburn have removed the weathered pine shakes from the historic 1862 Bridgeport Covered Bridge in Nevada County. Foundation work is being completed upstream on the South Yuba River for footbridge to replace this span. The firm has a $95,868 contract for bridge restoration and a $387,387 contract to build the new one. Next step in the restoration willbe replacement of structural members, to require the jacking up of the 230-foot bridge."
